Cutting Creator Onboarding From 9 Steps to 2

Every step in a signup flow is a chance for someone to leave. PLLAY's creator onboarding had nine of them — enough that the flow itself was quietly working against the goal of getting more creators running pools. This month it went from nine steps down to two.

Most of what those nine steps collected wasn't needed to get a creator's first pool live — it was needed eventually, for things like payouts, but asking for it upfront meant a creator had to clear a wall of forms before they'd created anything. The redesign moves everything that isn't required for a first pool out of the initial flow and into the places where it's actually needed.

The two steps that remain are account creation and a channel connection — the minimum PLLAY needs to know who a creator is and where their audience will see a pool. Everything else — payout details, deeper profile information — is asked for later, attached to the moment it becomes relevant instead of the moment someone is just trying to get started.

We also added an email-verification step with a resend option in parallel, which sounds like it cuts against "fewer steps" — it's there because trimming the flow down to the essentials only works if what's left is solid. A shorter flow with a broken verification step isn't actually shorter; it's just a shorter path to a dead end.

The result is a flow built around the one thing that actually matters at signup: getting a creator to their first live pool as fast as honestly possible.
