PLLAY Moves the Platform to Supabase Authentication and Ships a Unified Brand System
Every app in the PLLAY platform now authenticates through Supabase instead of a third-party identity provider, and all five creator- and fan-facing apps share one brand type system for the first time.
PLLAY consolidated two things this month that don't sound related but both come down to the same idea: making a platform made of several apps feel, and run, like one thing. Every app now authenticates through Supabase instead of a third-party identity provider, and the five creator- and fan-facing apps now share a single brand type system for the first time.
The authentication move took fan-app, creator-leagues, and platform-core off a third-party auth provider and onto Supabase Auth, using Google, Twitch, and email/password sign-in. It's a plumbing change more than a user-facing one — the practical effect is that identity now lives in the same place as the rest of PLLAY's data, instead of split across a separate provider, which is what makes future cross-app features possible without duct tape.
The brand system work aligned color tokens and rolled out a shared type system — Barlow Condensed for headlines, Barlow for body copy, JetBrains Mono for data — across all five apps. PLLAY's apps started life as separate projects that grew independently for a while; this closes the gap so moving from the fan app to a creator's dashboard to a league page reads as one platform, not five differently styled ones.
A few smaller platform updates shipped alongside these: fans can now pay with PayPal for credit purchases, first-party analytics instrumentation went live across the funnel, and Marvel Rivals joined the list of supported games creators can run predictions on.
None of this is a feature a fan or creator asked for by name — it's the kind of consolidation that makes the features they do ask for easier to build next.
"None of this is visible to a fan or a creator, and that's the point," said Shawn Gunn, acting CTO of PLLAY. "Consolidating auth and unifying the brand system are the kind of changes that make the next six months of features faster to ship, not flashier this month."
